He died suddenly following a heart attack October 30, 1950 at the home of his son in Galveston, Texas. He was married to Ada Faucett in 1906. To this union five children were born, two preceding him in death. He came to Roger Mills County in 1907, making his home on a farm near Durham until retiring in 1942. Surviving him are tow sons: Dr. V.C. Baxter, Galveston, Texas; Fred Baxter of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; one daughter, Viola Vandiver of Dalhart, Texas; and three grandchildren.
