Oley's father was killed in a train accident when he was two and his mother moved to Durham, Oklahoma where he resided there until he became ill in his last years. Oley graduated from Durham High School in 1936 and received a scholarship from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, llinois. He returned to Durham and was married to Clara Mae Jackson at Sayre, Oklahoma on December 10, 1936. Oley was a mechanic, electrican and was one of the first refrigeration specialist in western Oklahoma. He operated his shop in Durham until he was 85 and was a blessing to a remote community and was appreciated for his willing hands. Oley wasx a Christian and loved his family, providing for them physically and spiritually. He was a member of the Durham Church of Christ for many years before becoming a member of the Olsen Park congregation in Amarillo, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Sarah Strickland. Survivors include his wife, Clara, 1 son, Terry Dean Beckel and wife, Naomi, Amarillo, Texas; 2 daughters, Jean Kelley and husband, Charles, Amarillo, Texas and Joyce Ledbetter and husband, Neil, Bushland, Texas; 3 brothers, Robert Beckel, Indio, California, Charles Whitson, Liberal, Missouri, and Preston Whitson, Tulsa, Oklahoma; 1 sister, Katherine Allred, Bowie, Texas; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friednds. Services will be held May 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Durham Community Building officiated by Lawrence Kelley. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery, Durham, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Cheyenne.
