Beaty which occurred last Sunday afternoon, August 25, 1935 at 2:30 in an Elk City hospital, Very few people knew of his illness which had lasted for several weeks, as he had not been bedfast only since Thursday when he went to the hospital suffering from what he thought was rheumatism, but which physicians there pronounced typhoid fever in a severe form. Early Sunday morning hed passed into a state of coma from which he never rallied. L.D. Beaty, Jr. was the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Beaty, was born on June 5, 1917 in Cheyenne where he resided all of his life which was 18 years, 2 months and 20 days. He was a Junior in the local high school and until about two weeks prior to his death was one of the owners of the Cheyenne Cleaners. The Methodist church of this city was inadequate to accomodate the large crowd that assembled to pay last respects to one they had known and loved. Pall bearers were close friends of L.D. in life: Floyd Harmon, Kenneth Ballard, J. Warren Chalfant, Charles Henry Cross, Eli Shotwell, Wallace Williaims, Douglas G. Brann and Davis Horace Brown. Rev. J.H. Bradley, pastor of the Baptist church of this city delivered the funeral sermon following prayer by Rev. J. Albert Steele of Elk City. Rev. Bradley used hiss theme 'there is but a step between me and death' and in his eulogy stated that L.D. was courteous, respectful and popular and one of whom folks had a right to expect great things Rev. Brady spoke with all sincerity as he had known L.D. for several years. The body was laid to rest in the Cheyenne cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma beneath an immense mound of flowers bestowed by friends. The deceased is survived by his parents, one brother, Albert Field Beaty, his grandmother, Mrs. L.A. Beaty and a number of uncles, aunts and cousins. Among the relatives present for the funeral were Mrs. Willie Martin, aunt of Odessa, Texas; Mrs. Isabelle Quinn, aunt, her husband and daughter of St. Louie, Oklahoma; Mrs. Ray Cooksey, aunt, and her daughter, Donnalita of Seagraves, Texas; Boney Fields, uncle, Portales, New Mexico; Billie Bonner Jr., cousin and his wife and two children of Portales, New Mexicco; Dr. O.C. Standifer, Dorothy Blancdh Standifer and Mrs. Virgil Hill, cousins of Elk City, Oklahoma; and Mrs. J. M. Standifer, great aunt, of Elk FCity. In their grief the family has the deepest sympathy of the entire community.
