M. and Mrs. J. M. Standifer and was married to Mr. F. M. Bates February 4, 1900. She professed religion at an early age and lived a scrupulous Christian, the Bible being the first book she ever read through. When a child she had trouble with her eyes and resolved to read the Bible if she recovered her sight and had nearly read it through before anyone knew it, almost every day of her life, she read some portion of the Holy Word, often quoting David, "That she hid God's word in her heart that she might not sin against him." She possessed the Christian graves of charity and mercy and the human affections of love and sympathy to that degree that love became the law of her life. She had a bright and cheerful spirit enjoyed the society of young people and attracted them about her and delighted in the company of children, she truly made herself, "All things to all men." She possessed those qualities in such rich degree to others what must have been her affection for those of her own house? Her immediate family consisted of her husband, step daughter and foster son who are so bereaved that only God can comfort them, also she leaves four sisters, two brothers and many nieces and nephews who will miss her council and want for her prayers. No where will her presence and influence be found wanting more than in her own home neighborhood where her many friends watched and waited upon he through her long illness which God in his mercy ended in the early morning December 23, 1906.
