Batterton was born on September 14, 1917 in St. Francis, KS, and died on January 24 at home with her family. Ian Blacker and Larry Haddock officiated at the services. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Lamar. Laura "Shirley" Batterton is survived by her husband Virgle, children, Lois Bauer of Tyrone, Oklahoma, Lola Gilliland of Lamar, Joyce (Butch) Hedgecoke of Tempe, arizona, Wayne (Carol Ann) Batterton of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Glenda (Gerald) Carpenter of Las Animas, borhters and sisters, Emma Altweis of Los Angeles, California, John D. Powell of Palo Alto, California, Ralph Powell of Centerton, AR, Mildred Green of Amarillo, Texas, Henry (Norma) Powell of Lamar, Lillian (Wayne) Clausen of Lamar, Alice Kelley of Lamar, and Elmer Powell of Boulder; 25 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and numberous nieces and nephews. Batterton was prceded in death by parents, William Chalres and Mable Clair (Watson) Powell; sisters, Vera Collins and Betty Newman; brother, Frank Powell; and her sons-in-law, Duane Bauer, Tom Barlow, and Bill Eirhart.
