Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Rev. Dick Shaw of the First Baptist Church, Caldwell, Idaho officiated. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell, Idaho. Mr. Black was born April 2, 1917 at Cheyenne, Oklahoma, a son of Arthur and Edna Scott Black. He, was reared and educated in Oklahoma and served with the US Army Air Corps on Guam during WWII. Following his discharge, he worked in Arizona and New Mexico. Before moving to Idaho. Paul operated a business in Nampa prior to serving as a deputy sheriff for Canyon County until his retirement. He married Shirley Tolman on April 9, 1990 and the couple have since resided in Nampa. Paul enjoyed fishing and bird hunting and will always be remembered to the helping hand that he extended to those in need and for the "treats" he gave to visitors. Surviving in addition to his wife, Shirley, of Nampa are a son, Paul A. Black of Spokane, Washington; five step children, Monte Smout of Idaho Falls, Edwin Slout of polson, Montana, Shirley Woodhouse of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Ina Jensen of Sandy, Utah, and Joyce Cheney of Renton, Washington; numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren who lovingly remember Grandpa Paul.
