Blackketter was born to J.W. and Cora Dell Blackketter December 21, 1897, at Coal City, Indiana. He passed away in his sleep April 2, 1984 at age 86. His father, J.W., came with team and wagon to Oklahoma and homesteaded one mile west of Red Star Church in 1898. His wife, Cora Dell and son Koert came out by train in 1899. Koert grew to manhood in the Red Star Community. He was a veteran of WWI. Hoert taught school at Diamond Front School in Oklahoma, as well as in Colorado for a couple years. On June 6, 1920, he was united in marriage to Nellie Pearl Studebaker. To this union were born six children: Esther, Don, Gene, Betty, Lewis and Janice, who died shortly after birth. In late 1944 they moved to Upland, California, where both Koert and Nellie worked for a G.E. plant for 17 years. When they retired in 1961, they returned to Red Star community. Koert loved God, he loved Nillie, he loved his family and friends, and he thoroughly enjoyed all of them. He was always a champion of Oklahoman. He promoted and believed in soil conservation, and believed one should leave the land in better condition than one found it. He enjoyed good cattle, and alwasys sought to improve them. Koert was devoted to his church, unselfish in his giving and in his service to God. He had an exceptional mind and keen with that remained with him to the last. During the last couple years, his courage and patience in the face of increasing physical disability were a source of constant inspiration to his family and friends. His ability to quote poetry, limericks and "Uncle John" stories delighted and amaze his children and grandchildren. He loved not only his children by birth, but also his "acquired" children, as he called his daughters and sons-in-law. He passed away early Monday morning, April 2, 1984 in his sleep. Those who survive him and will greatly miss him: Nellie Blackketter, his faithful and loving wife of nearly 64 years; his children: Esther Bailey and husband, Fred, of Weatherford; Dr. Don Blackketter and wife, Leoda, of Shamrock, Texas; Eugene Blackketter and wife, Ruth, of Leedey; Betty Noel and husband, Eldon, of Abilene KS; and Lewis Blackketter and wife, Arlene, of McLemoresville, TN; twenty- six grandchildren and nineteen greatr grandchilden by birth, and many "grandchildren" he adopted and claimed and loved as his own. He is also survived by two sisters: Mrs. Ruth Menzer of Custer City, OK; Mrs. Lyle (Bess) Yarborough, Booneville, Ar; two brothers: William of Phoenix, AZ and J. Wendell of Meeker, Okla. Preceding him in death besides his infant daughgter, Janice, were two brothers, Roy and Tom; two sisters: Elsie and Mary Jane, and two granddaughters, Jo Nell and Carmen. Services were held at Red Star Church April 5, at 10:30 a.m. under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home. Officiating minister, Rev. Clyde Denney, assisted by Rev. Stan Norman and grandson Rev. Kurt C.
