Blackketter. Clyde Denney and Anthony Pennington officiated. Honorary Pall Bearers were Asa Albright, Jr., Ashley Barnard, Jay Bentley, George Green, Robert Green, Glen Shockey, Leon Shockey, Orville Shockey, Troy Shockey and Bud Switzer. Internment followed in the Red Star Cemetery, Roger Mills County, OK. Roy D. Blackketter was born on August 2, 1901 to James William and Cora Dell Miller Blackketter, and passed from this life on January 19, 1983 at his home southwest of Leedey. Roy was 81 years, 5 months and 27 days of age at the time of his death. Roy grew into his manhood on the family farm in the Red Star Community. He attended the Red Star school, graduating from the 8th grade there, at which time he received a 2 year scholarship to Oklahoma A.&M. at Stillwater, where he received a teaching certificate. After completing the 2 years of college, he returned to Leedey and graduated with the class of 1922. At that time Roy moved to Colorado, near Campo, where he taught in several different schools, some of these were Dramon Ridge, High Point, Valley View, Cowboy College and Glendale. While teaching in Colorado, Roy met Lucy Frances Streeter and they were married on April 29, 1925, at Springfield, Colorado. To this happy union 3 children were born: James Frank, Robert Aldwin and Norma Dell. After 7 years of marriage, on November 19, 1932, Lcy passed away leaving Roy with 3 small children. In 1935 Roy and his children moved back to the Red Star Community, where he began to farm and ranch. On October 8, 1940, Roy was united in marriage to Lena Shockey at Sayre, OK. To this happy union 3 children were born: Roy David, Mary Jane and Lee D. For his pastime enjoyments, Roy like to ride horses and Rodeo. He liked the faarm life and was a good neighbor and helpful friend. At an early age Roy was baptized and was a member of the Friends Church. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Lucy, 1 son Robert, 1 sister Elsie Mae and 1 brother Tom. Those remaining to honor his memory include his wife, Lena, of the home; 1 daughters, Norma Dell Moler of Cheyenne, OK and Mary Jane Blackketter of the home; SD, Roy David, Strong, OK and Lee of Leedey; 3 sisters, Ruth Menzer, Custer City, OK, Bessie Yarbrough, Booneville, Arkansas, Mary Jane Williams of Phoenix, Arizona; 3 brothers, K.C. of Leedey, William of Pheonix, Ariz. and Wendell of Meeker, OK; 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. --------------------------------------------------------------------
