A. Bennett of near Crawford on last Friday night as he slept to end his 84 years of life. Burial services for Mr. Bennett were held Sunday at the Crawford school auditorium after whicfh burial was in the Fairview Cemetery, Durham, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. For almost half a century C.A. Bennett had resided on the farm which he homesteaded in 1902. During all those years C.A. Bennett had been one of the moist active citizens of the county. He served the people of the third district as county commissioner for eight years, and for the past twenty years he had been a member of the Roger Mills County Election Board. He was an active member of the Church of Christ of Crawford. C.A. Bennett managed one of the first stores in his community. He was active in the institution of an Odd Fellows Lodge at Crawfords and remained an active member until the lodge was consolidated with another lodge later. C.A. Bennett was a man who had the ability to make and keep friends. His passing marks a passing of one of the county's most stalwart citizens. Charles Alfred Bennett was born April 7, 1864 in Clark County, Iowa and departed this life June 18, 1948 at his homesatead near Crawford, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 11 days. At the age of 15 years he moved with his parents to Goodman, Missouri. In 1893 he was united in marriage to Jennie Elizabeth Flack of Goodman, Mo. In 1902 Mr. Bennett settled in what was then known as Old Day County. He ran one among the first mercantle stores in Old Day county which was located 1 mile north of the present site of Crawford. Mr. Bennett became a member of the church in 1904. Mr. Bennett was the oldest of a family of six children and the last of the six to depart this life. Mr. Bennett was the father of two children. Mrs. Irvilla Rorabough of Santa Marie, California and Mrs. Clara Lula Brewer of Amarillo, Texas. He had six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three step grandchildren. Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife and the two daughters. Rev. Harold Knight of Crawford preached the funeral sermon at the Crawford school auditorium after which the Tunnard Funeral Home of Cheyenne directed the burial service in the Fairview Cemetery, Durham, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
