The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ==================================================================== Obit for Thurman Earl Briggs Funeral services were held on July 9, 1969 at the Church of Christ in Cheyenne for Thurman Earl Briggs 81. He died Sunday July 6, 1969 in the Mooreland Hospital following a lengthy illness. Rev. Bill Holt, of Shattuck conducted the services and bruial was held at the Strong City cemetery, Strong City, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Earl was born May 23, 1888 in Scotland County, Missouri, to Thomas H. and Betty Road Briggs. As a young man, his parents moved to Roger Mills County where they purchased a farm. Here he met and married Eva Sadler in Durham, on July 8, 1909. On July 8 they would have been married 60 years. At the time of their marriage, Mr. Briggs was foreman of the Todd Ranch near Canadian, Texas. Later he became a farmer and then a contractor. He retired in this capacity at the approximate age of 75. Earl was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Shattuck. Surving Mr. Briggs, are his wife, Eva Briggs; six sons, Darius of McLoud, Okla.; Cyril of Merced, California, Robert of Cheyenne; Loel of Alva, Oklahoma; Thomas of League City, Texas; and Sherman of Las Cruces, New Mexico; five daughters, Mrs. Zenobia Riley of Dumas, Texas; Mrs. Juanita Walker of Corpus Christi, Texas; Mrs. Wenona Moore of Sayre, Okla.; Mrs. Nadine Davis of Amarillo, Texas and Mrs. Joan Decker of Broderick, California. He was preceded in death by a son, Noel, in 1952. He is also survived by 44 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of the Thomas H. and Betty Road Briggs family.
