Briggs was born May 6, 1935 in Durham, Roger Mills County, OK to Lois and Noel Briggs and passed away February 22, 1995 at his home in Arnett at the age of 59 years, 9 months and 16 days. Jessie grew up in Roger Mills County, attending school at Strong City before graduatin from Hammon. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and after his discharge, he moved to Dallas where he remained until moving to Hobbs, NM. Jessie married Margie Wise on November 14, 1980 in Hobbs where they lived until moving to western Oklahoma in 1989. He lived in Redyon, where he worked as the night watchman before moving to Arnett in April of 1990 to make his home. Jessie attended the Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather (Vint Thomas), wife, 1 brother, 1 nephew and 1 stepson. He is survived by 1 daughter and son in law, Cynthia Ann and David Parker; his mother Lois Thomas, Cheyenne, OK; 2 sisters and brothers in law, Pat and Frank Collins, Durham, OK and Roxie and Quinlin Hensley, Altus, OK; 1 brother and sister in law, Ronald and Joy Briggs, Ulysses, KS; 3 grandchildren, Andrew, Justin and Misty; 1 stepsisters, Lola Harris, Midwest City, OK and Peggy King, Edmond, OK; 1 stepbrother, Joe Thomas, Reydon, OK; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 1995 at the Cheyenne First Baptist Church officiated by Terrell Romberg, and assisted by Bart Poole.
