He passed away January 16, 2004 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma at home with his sister at the age of 80 years 5 months and 29 days. Raymond attended Needmore and Cheyenne Schools. At the age of 15, he attended Muskogee School for the blind and graduated in 1945. He was married to Doris Johanna Gilliland at the Cheyenne Methodist Parsonage on September 4, 1948. He later attended Okmulgee Technical College and studied wiring and small engine repair. Raymond operated Bowers Electric for several years in Cheyenne and also worked for Maytag for years as a Service Technician. Raymond excelled in everything he did. His greatest achievement was doing stucco and cement work on houses. He enjoyed his garden, chickens and cows and after his retirement, he moved to Cheyenne to live with his sister on the faarm. He loved being with his family and grandchildren and taking them to the lake to swim. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 son, Larry Bowers ands 1 sister, Addie Mae. Survivors include: 2 daughters, Diane Bowers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Debra Shewmaker of Missouri; 2 sons Ray Bowers of Moore, Oklahoma, Monty Bowers of California; 1 sister Carol Ann Batterton of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; 2 brothers Charlie Bowers of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Leroy Bowers of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 aunt Ester Dooty of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; and a host of relatives and friends.
