In 1908 Vera's family moved to Rankin, Oklahoma where Vera grew up and married Alvin Byers in 1930. They farmed and worked in Oklahoma until 1950 when they moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico where Alvin worked construction on the facility for the Atomic Energy Commission. In 1955 they moved to Truxton, Arizona where they leased a gas station on Rooute 66. Vera and Alvin lived most of the rest of their llives in Truxton. Alvin passed away May 22, 1999. They had just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in January. After Alvin's passing Vera remained living with her daughter-in-law, Mildred Barker at the Frontier Cafe and Motel in Truxton, Arizona until Vera's passing on November 10, 2004. Vera was preceded in death by her only child, Raymond Barker, who seccumbed to cancer in 1990. A great granddaughter, Rhonda Esquerra, in 2003, and four brothers and sisters. Vera is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mildred Barker, of Truxton, Arizona, a granddaughter, Sue Harger, two great grandsons, Levi and Kyle Esquerra, a great-great-granddaughter, Nellie Eaquerra, two great-great- grandsons, Raymond Esquerra and Kyle D. Fox all of the Kingman area. She is also survived by one brother, Arthur T. (ChicK) Barker, age 94, Sayre, Oklahoma, and one sister, Ruth L. Hughes, age 84, of Reydon, Oklahoma and many many nieces and nephews from all over the country who loved her dearly.
