She was born on June 27, 1922, in Amarillo, Texas to Stella and Curtis Hanawalt. She grew up in Roll, where she graduated from Crawford High School. She was married to Robert Eugene Briggs at Roll on March 18, 1939. They lived in the Crawford/Durham communities before moving to Cheyenne in 1946 where she worked for the Calvert Cleaners, Jarvis and Eaton Grocery and the Security State Bank. In 1970 they moved to Altus and Beth worked for National Bank of Commerce. Beth and Robert moved back to Cheyenne in 1980 to make their home. Beth loved being with her family and church family. Briggs was a member of the Cheyenne First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Bill Hanawalt. She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Sherry and Jerry Jones of Clinton; one son and his wife, Larry and Michelle Briggs of Shawnee; seven grandchildren, Michael Jones of Cheyenne, Chris Jones of Edmond, Derek Briggs, Dane Briggs and Jeff Williams, all three of Oklahoma City, Lee Williams of San Jose, Calif., Ashley Smith of Broken Arrow and three great grand children, Zeph, Jackson and Alyssa. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Cheyenne First Baptist Church officiated by Terrell Romberg and Paul Nachtigall.
