All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Altus Times 17 May 2004 Maureen Burge Maureen Burge, 76, of Hollis, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Harmon Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Hammon to John and Reba (Reed) Stafford. She graduated from Hollis High School in 1945. Burge attended the University of Oklahoma for several years after her high school graduation and later, in 1961, started the RN program at the Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing in Amarillo at the age of 34. She worked in Amarillo at Northwest Texas Hospital for about a year before returning to Hollis to go to work at Harmon Memorial Hospital where she worked the nightshift for more than 30 years. After her retirement in 1997, Maureen loved to read and spend time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hollis. Burge married Clyde Homer Burge on March 22, 1948 in Childress, Texas. He preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1974. She is also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Arlean Sloetzer. She is survived by four children, John Homer Burge and wife Cathy of Kansas City, Mo, Billy Clyde Burge and wife Pat, Reba Lucinda Jackson and husband Bill, and Melinda Maureen Young and husband Mike, all of Hollis; two brothers, Wilbur "Bill" Stafford of Sun City, Ariz., and Leon Stafford of Titusville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Hollis with Pastor Jim Westmoreland and Pastor Jim Fishback officiating.
