She passed away April 12, 2003 in the Bell Avenue Nursing Center of Elk City, 3 months and 17 days. Irene grew up in Beckham and Roger Mills Counties. She was married to Sammie Burckhalter south of Berlin, klahoma on October 13, 1928 and they lived in the Grimes Community until moving north to Texola. They later moved north of Sweetwater on the Godfrey place and then California for a short time before returning to Oklahoma where they lived at Erick and then the Sunny Point community until 1963 when they moved to the Meridian community to make their home. Irene later moved to Elk City where she resided at Bell Avenue Nursing Home. She enjoyed all of the activities at the nursing home, but mainly enjoyed the bingo games, which she never missed if sh4e was able to attend, and she frequently won. Irene also enjoyed going to garage sales. She was the best of moms and willl be greatly missed by a loving family. The family requests memorial donations be made to the organization of your choice. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, Willis Lee and Pete Aulbert, 3 grandsons, Ted Burckhalter, Sammy and Shane York, 1 granddaughter, Ellen Watson, 1 great grandson, Chris Schmidt, 1 great great grandson, Trenton Schmidt. Graveside services were held April 15, 2003 at 1:00 PM at Mulberry Cemetery, officiatefd by J.M. Ashley. Arrangements are under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Services. Survivors include: 2 daughters, Fern York and husband, Ronnie of Elk City, Oklahoma, Kaye Hopkins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 2 sons, S.A. "Buck" Surckhalter and wife, Vera of Sweetwater, Oklahoma, Paul Burkhalter and wife, Donna of Stratfford, Missouri; 1 granddaughters, Diane Plenert and husband, Dennis of Mound Ridge, Kansas, Angie Allard and husband, James of Edmond, Oklahoma; 2 granddaughters-in-law, Linda Owens Burckhalter of Elk City, Oklahoma, inda Witt Burckhalter of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; 3 great grandchildren, Brandy Blevins and husband, Jarrod of Sayre, Oklahoma, Benji Burckhalter and wife, April of Sweetwater, Oklahoma, Julie Skelton and husband, Brent, of Elk City, Oklahoma; 1 great granddaughter-in-law, Michelle Schmidt of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; 5 great great ggrandchildren, Austyn ad Avery Blevins, Nathan Dunlap, Ethan Schmidt, Christian Skelton; host of relatives and friends.
