The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ====================================================================== Larry Zayne Barker, son of Alfred and Betty Barker was born in Sayre, Oklahoma, on November 1, 1939 and passed away April 30, 1982 in Orange County, California. Larry is survived by his wife, Janet, son, Brent, daughter Stacy, his mother Betty Barker and his grandmother, Mrs. Altie Nabors, Reydon, aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Smith, Sweetwater, Oklahoma and Mr. and Mrs. Arzia Nabors, Sulphur Springs, Texas. Larry was born a twin. His twin brother Jerry, died at four months. In 1952 Al and Betty and son Larry moved to Pico Rivers, California. Larry attended El Rancho High School, graaduating in 1957. He then attended Whittier College and UCLA. While in high school, Larry started his grocery career as a boxboy for Shopping Bag Food Stores. He continued his grocery career with Vons Grocery Company where he met Janet and later married in February 1963. They were blessed with a son Brenton Randall and a daughter Stacy Michelle. At the age of 24, Larry moved into management with Vons and continued in this position until June of 1972 when Larry realized his liflong dream of owning his own grocery store. He and his high school friend Dennis Dull then purchased Acrods Market in Laguna Beach, California. In May of 1978, Larry and Dennis along with Jack Stevens purchased the Alamo Market in Lake Elsimore, California. Larry's greatest love was his family. His dedication to his children allowed him to also enjoy his second love, sports. With Brfent, Larry and Janet became heavily involved with Maverick Little League in Whittier, where Larry was a manager and also served as league president. In 1977, the Barker family moved to Mission Viejo, California. At this time, Larry and Janet became involved with Stacy in the Mission Bobby Sox league. One of Larry's greatest rewards was seeing the many accomplishments and success of players he felt privileged to have coached. His family and friends will continue to remember him for his standards and values of life, the love and respect he gave and received. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, Ok
