The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ==================================================================== Obit for Russell Broadbent Russell Broadbent was born to Luther D. and Julia Beals Broadbent, in Plainsview, Nebraska, on October 21, 1891 and departed this life in his home at Leedey, Oklahoma, December 27, 1980 at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 6 days. In 1898, the Luther Broadbent family traveled from Nebraska to Oklahoma in a covered wagon. Russell could remember waling across the frozen Missouri river. The family homesteaded at Butler, Oklahoma in 1900 and there Russell attended school and grew to manhood. On December 22, 1915 Russell was united in marriagve to Miss Florence Titon at Butler, Oklahoma. These marriage vows were kept for 65 years and 5 days. Russell and Florence bought their first 160 acres of land, east of Moorewood, Oklahoma, and there, five of their six children were born. Adding to this land until 1933, when they acquired their land northwest of Leedey, and moved to Roger Millsa County. Their son, Billy, was born on this land and still lives there. Russell was baptized in the Methodist Church of Leedey, January 28, 1976. Russell was always interested in the betterment of his community and served ten years as president of the Liberty Ceneter School board. During World War II he was elected president of the organization of the Leedey War Dads. Russell's occupation was farming and ranching and he farmed a part of his land until he was 84 years of age; even though he had suffered a very severe illness at the age of 65. Then weathered and recovered from three more very severe illnessess in the intervening years. Through all these years, Russell kept his vigor, enthusiasm, and determination. Russel was devoted to his family and wanted his children to continue with their education and taught them to strive for an easier life than he had known, helping them to acquire this. He was a pillar of strength to brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, as well as his own chilren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife, Florence Tilton Broadbent, of the home, two daughters, Ruth Kandall, Snyder, Oklahoma and Ruby Martin, Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Four sons, Elmer Ray Broadbent of Aruba, Dutch Antilies, Arthur Howard Broadbent and Billy Allen Broadbent, both of Leedey, Juniro Tilton Broadbent, Saline, Michigan, and eighteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Tow sisters, Cynthia Scott, Oklahoma City and Pearla Anderson, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Three brothers, Glenn Broadbent, Eugene, Oregon, Ralph Broadbent, Pampa, Texas and Ray Broadbent, Ventura, California and a host of nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday, December 19, 1980 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church Leedey, Oklahoma. Rev. Joe Clark and Rev. Bob Milner, officiating. Pallbearers were his eight grandsons. For their funeral car the pallbearers drove Russell's last car-a 1965 Chevrolet. Burial followed in New Hermon Cemetery, Leedey, Oklahoma.
