The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ==================================================================== Obit for Florence Marguerite Tilton Broadbent Florence Marguerite Tilton Broadbent was born July 2, 1897 in Florence, Nebraska. She passed from this life on November 18, 1994 at the age of 97 years, 3 months and 26 days. In 1899 when she was two years old, the family came to Indian Territory and homesteaded in Custer County. Today, this homestead is still in the family. Florence grew to womanhood while attending Custer Schoo, which was located on the Homestead. She then attended Moorewood High School. Florence was married to Russell Broadbent on December 22, 1915 at Butler, Oklahoma. To this union six children were born. They established their first home near Moorewood where five of their children were born. In 1933, they moved to Roger Mills County, 6 miles NW of Leedey where their last child was born. Here they raised their family. In 1959 they retired and moved to Leedey. Florence loved to cook and delighted in her family coming home, enjoying meals and fellowship. Florence made a commitment to Christ as a young girl and later joined the United Methodist Church at Leedey and was faithful in her attendance and services as long as her health permitted. She enjoyed Bible study, the United Methodist Women's activities and districk meetings. She helped the church acquire the van and enjoyed many trips in it. Florence was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was very patrotic to her country. She was also a member of the Liberty Center Home Demostration Club and later the Canadian Extension Club. She enjoyed growing floers and gardening and always had a largve flock of chickens. Throughout the years, she made quilts for her home and later for each of children, grandchildren and several of her great grandchildren. Florence was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a faithful friend. Those preceding her in death were her husband, ! Russell in 1980; her parents, 4 brothers, 1 sister, 1 grandson and 2 great grandchildren. Left to cherish her memories are 4 sons and their wives, Elmer and Lola of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, Junior and Pat of Reagan, Tennessee, Howard and Christine of Leedey and Billy and Leah of Leedey; and two daughters and their husbands Ruthe and Royce Kendall, Snyder, Oklahoma and Ruby and Lloyd Martin of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Russell in the New Hermon Cemetery. Services were at the First United Methodist Church at Leedey, Oklahoma on Monday, November 21, 1994 at 10:30 a.m. with Jim Holifield, pastor officiating. Interment was in New Hermon Cemetery, Leedey, Oklahoma. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK --------------------------------------------------------------------
