She was born in Montague County, Texas, February 12, 1884. In her early childhood her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bolt settled their family on a claim near Carter, Oklahoma. There she grew to young womanhood. She completed her high school equivalency at Willow and attended normal schoools at Mangum. Both before and after her marriages she was a teacher in several one room schools and her ex-students still refer to her as "Miss Mary"! On June 20, 1909 she was married to James Monroe Bradshaw at Reed, Oklahoma. They lived around Reed and Mangum until 1921 when they moved to a ranch in the bend of the Canadian River. In 1923 they moved to Cheyenne where she lived until her death. To this union seven childeren were born: Elbert, Herbert, Geraldine, Perry, Pauline, Jimmie and Billie Fern. Mr. Bradshaw, Hub, Perfry and Pauline preceded heer in death. Grandma Bradshaw as shed was affectionately known, was completely family cenetered. Besides her living children and their wives and husbands are daughters-in-law Arvella Bradshaw, Mary Bradshaw and son-in-law Edgar Riggs. She was an inspiration and a driving force for her children and her 19 grandchildren. For many years she was an active membeer of the Eastern Star. Although Grandma Bradshaw had been confined to her wheelchair for the past five years, she had kept an active interest in her friends, community and the First Baptist Church where shed had been a member since moving to Cheyenne. The strength she developed during her pioneer days enabled her to adapt to all succeeding changes in her life. She had always been concerned for the well-being of her family and her constant encouragement and high ideas will continue to influence us all.
