The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ====================================================================== Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK 14-Aug-1997 Melvin Allen Boren was born September 11, 1926, in Sulphur, Oklahoma to Raymond B. and Lottie Belle Boren. He passed away on July 25, 1997, at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 70 years and 10 months. Melvin spent the first 10 years of his life in Sulphur, Oklahoma where he attended schools through the 5th grade. He and his family then moved to Heber, California, where he made his home for 7 years. While living in Heber, he attended school in El Centro, California until his Senior year at which time, he and his family moved to a farm south of Holtville, California. He graduated in 1944 from Holtville High School. On May 29, 1949, Melvin was united in marriage to Mona Green Boren. They were married in Yuma, Arizona. Their marriage was blessed with four children: one daughter, Dee Ann and three sons, Dale, Don and David. In January of 1949, Melvin proudly served his country by joining the US Army and was in the reserv es for 12 months. Then he was recalled in September, 1950 and served his country in the Korean Conflict. He was honoraably dischrged in September, 1953. After getting out of the service, Melvin worked for several large grocery store chains including Safeway, Cooks and Mayfair Supermarkets. During this time, he and his famly resided in El Centro, California where they remained until 1967 at which time he and his family moved to Camargo, Oklahoma, where they purchased the Camargo Grocey and Hardware Store. In 1983, he and his wife sold the sotre and since that time he has continued to work as a meat cutter at both the England's and Jack and Jill Stores in Seiling, Oklahoma. At the age of 37, Melvin wads baptized and became a member of the Catholic Church. Since living in Camargo, he was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Woodward. He was a very devoted Catholic and always attended Church with his family faithfully. Melvin enjoyed many hobbies including collecting antiques, Coca-Cola memorabilia, electric trains and also had a gun collection. One of his favorite past times was attending flea markets and gun and antique shows. This is something he and his wife, Mona, enjoyed doing together. Melvin was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His family family was the most important thing in his life. He always enjoyed having family get togethers. Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Raymond B. Boren, his mother Lottie Belle Boren; two brothers, Bill Boren and Bobby Boren, one sister, Vera Boren Haworth; and a grandson, Charles Jaron Boren. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mona Boren, of the home; one daughter, Dee Ann Boatman and husband, Jackie of Camargo; three sons, Dale Bored and wife, Krista of Camargo, Don Boren and his wife, Ginger of Woodward, and David Boren and his wife, Melissa of Guymon; ten grandchildren, Dara, Deedra and Daniel Boatman, Dale and Travis Broen, all of Camargo, Kimberly, Nick and Josh Boren of Woodward and Sean and Lacey Boren of Concordia, Missouri. He is also survived by two brothers, Johnny Boren of Camargo, and James Boren of Tucson, Arizona, an aunt, several nieces and nephes and a host of friends.
