Brown Funeral services for James "Jim" A. Brown, 86, Clinton, Oklahoma were held at 2:00 p.m, Wednesday, June 18, 1997 in the First Christian Church with Doyle Kinney and Pat Peters officiating. James Aaron Brown died early Monday at his Clinton home. He was born on February 12, 1911 at Cordell, the son of Clarence A. and Mary Elizabeth Younger Brown. He was reared in Codell and later moved to Durham and attended the Bellview Country School. At age 20 he owned a team of horses and fresno, moving dirt to help build the first Pack Saddle Bridge norht of Roll across the North Canadian River. He was married to the former Miss Velma Verna Barton on May 21, 1932 in Arnett. For five years, he worked in Texas, building oil well sites. They made their home in Durham area. He was foreman over the WQPA and later operated heavy equipment building contract dams for the goverment in Texas and Oklahoma. He served as County Commissioner in Roger mills County from 1958 to 1968. He farmed and ranched in Roger Mills and Ellis Countiesx the majority of his life. His son was his partner in the ranch business in Ellis County until 1978 when Jim retired and moved with his wife, Velma, to Clinton. While in Durham, he served on the Farm Security office board in Roger Mills County and also served for a number of years on the school board of Durham. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He and his wife celebrated 65 years of marriage on May 21, of this years. Burial was in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton. Survivors include his wife, Velma, of the home; a daughter, Joyce Lacey and her husband Stoney, of Clinton; a daughter-in-law, Jessie Brown of Arnett; a sister, Winnie Sibley of Fritch, Texas; a brother, C.A. Brown and his wife, Wilda, of Fritch, Texas; six grandchildren, Sparla Dick and her husband, Curtis, of Winfield, Kansas, Charlene Butler and her husband Jack, of Clinton, Neal Lacey of Oklahoma City, Geral Lynn Brown of Arnett, Garry Brown of Arnett, Carol Robertson and her husband, Jody of Leedey; two step-grandchildren, Thomas Alsup and his wife, Carolyn, of Oklahoma City, Cidy Follett, Km Follett, Brandi Davenport and Felisa Alsup all of Austin, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren, Shana Dick of Manhaten, Kansas, Aaron Dick of Winfield, Kansas, Amb ert Whitworth, Sara Whitworth, and Alean Whitworth all of Clinton, Oklahoma, Logan and Garret Robertson of Leedey, Oklahoma.
