All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Surnames: Barnes, Atwood, Zeigler, Heim, Campbell, Davenport, Howell, Miller, Alexander James Harrison Barnes, 84, a western Oklahoma resident since 1901, died Monday June 15, 1970 in the Sayre Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 17, 1970 at 2:30 p.m. in the Sayre Church of Christ, with Jerry Pospsil and Tom Kent officiating. Mr. Barnes was born November 28, 1885, in Harris, Missouri, and came with his parents, to western Oklahoma in 1901 by train and covered wagon. The family settled near Berlin where Mr. Barnes helped to build the family home, hauling lumber from Granite and Mangum with a team and wagon. Mr. Barnes worked for his father hauling freight from Sayre for the family store in Berlin. He was married April 28, 1907, to Nellie Ann Atwood at Berling. He farmed in the Berlin community until 1956 when he retired and moved to Sayre. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, 1904 North Sixth, Sayre, Oklahoma; three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Zeigler, Bluff City, Kansas; Mrs. Faye Heim, Amberst, Texas; Mrs. Neolna Campbell, Berlin; three sons, John W., Wichita, Kansas; Hobert, New Haven, Conn., and Norman, Oklahoma City; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; five sisters Mrs. Annah Davenport, Sayre; Mrs. Esthel Howell, Oklahoma City; Mrs. Ammel Miller, El Paso, Texas; Mrs. Opal Miller, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mrs. Freda Alexander, Portland, Oregon.
