She passed away January 6, 2010 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years and 11 months. Beatrice grew up 1 1/2 miles east of Berlin graduating from Berlin High School in 1936. While in high school she was named the class artist. After graduation she helped her family on the farm during the Dust Bowl days. Beatrice told many stories of the dust bowl as being nothing but clouds of dirt for miles and miles. She was married to Charles William Bales, east of Berlin, Oklahoma on November 5, 1944. After their marriage, they moved to the family farm just west of Berlin where they remained until 1992 when they moved to Sayre to make their home. Beatrice started quilting as a child and continued until recent. Many members of the family and friends have benefited from her love of quilting. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and entering her projects in the Roger Mills and Beckham County Fairs. Beatrice was a member of the Berlin Quilting Club and the Roger Mills Home Extenson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles Bales, 1 son Gerald Bales, 4 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by her 5 sons, Earl Bales and wife, Sherry, Sayre, Oklahoma; Larry Bales and wife, Glenda, Elk City, Oklahoma; Doyle Bales and wifed, Susa, Sayre, Oklahoma; Gene Bales and wife, Jolene, Sayre, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Christine Goodwin, Cordell, Oklahoma and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Rose Chapel officiated by Brother Gary Baird. Burial followed at the Berlin Cemetery, Berlin, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
