Although he had been ill for several months, the end came suddenly and unexpected, the cause being in the nature of a congestive chill. Mr. Black was born in Des Moines, Iowa, 52 years ago (1858). From there came to Webb City, Missouri where he was married to Miss Maloney. They lived awhile in Kansas and later came to Oklahoma and homesteaded the farm upon which he died. Mr. Black was well known about Cheyenne and to the traveling public generally, having been proprietor of the Hotel Black several years. The funeral services were conducted at his late reaidence by Rev. W.W. Robinson Sunday afternoon and interment was made at the Rogers Cemetery near his former home. A widow and four children, two sons and two daughters, survive him.
