He moved about with his family and at the age of 16 came to the Herring Community where he worked for the Herring Ranch most of his life. He was married to Pearl Montgomery on September 17, 1927 in Elk City. In 1961, John and his son Louis leased the Herring Ranch where they operated the ranch and acquiredc a portion of the ranch in 1965 where John worked until some 10 years ago. John was a past member of the school board of the Herring School, a charter member of the Hammon Round Up Club, borad member of the Roger Mills Farmers Home Administration and worked in various capacities at his church in Hammon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Pearl of the home; three children, Betty Parks and her husband, Junior of Sayre, Louis Chapman and his wife, Marlene of Cheyenne and Joan Wood and her husband, Lewis of Rocky, nine grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
