Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home. Mary Caroline Chapman was born July 1, 1914 in Artesia, New Mexico to Benjamin Harvey and Helen James Thomas and died Thursday at the age of 81. Her family moved from Artesia, New Mexico to the Sandstone Community where she was raised. She attended Herring and Hammon Schools. She was married to Raymond Chapman on January 23, 1931 in Hammon. He was a farmer there in the Herring Community where they lived until 1946. Then they moved to Elk City where she has lived since. She worked at the Armour Creamery and the Community Hospital until her health failed in 1978. In 1984 she moved into a local Nursing Home. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include: her sons, Dean Chapman and his wife Claudi of Clinton; Dale Chapman and his wife Yvonne of Austin, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Frank (Hazel) Dodson; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
