Chapman were conducted from Martin Funeral Chapel, Elk City, Monday, March 24, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Chuck Horton officiating. Burial followed in the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Chapman was born in Sanger, Texas on November 19, 1908 and passed away in the St. Joseph Medical Center in Ponca City early Friday morning, March 21, 1986 at the age of 77. He graducated from high school in Sanger,Texas. Following graduation he moved from Sanger to Oklahoma City. He then moved to Weatherford where he began his college education. Upon graduation from Southwestn Oklahoma State University in 1938 he marreid Elsie McClure in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on July 8, 1963. After his marriage he moved to Wyoming to teach speech at the University of Wyoming. Following his teaching career he moved to Tennessee to attend the University of Tennessee where he earned his Juris Doctor Degree. Harry and his wife later travled to Cheyenne in 1946 to buy some law books where they decided to settle. He set up his law practice and later became the Assisitant District Attorney until his retirement. Chpaman was a member of the Cheyenne Masonic Lodge #133, a long time member of the Cheyenne Methodist Church. He was a Shriner and a thirty-two degree Mason. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilion fraternity. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Western Oklahoma, past member of the Board of Directors of the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital. He was instrumental in Cheyenne for the location of the Black Kettle Museum and was the author of the inscription memorializing the Battle of the Washita. Survivors include several nieces and nephews and several very close friends and business associates. A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Chapman's name designating the Shriner's Cripple Children's Hospital, or the charity of the donor's choice.
