Obit for Joseph M. Casady


In the death of Joseph M. Casady, which occured at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday
morning at his home, this city loses one of its best known and well liked
citizens.

Mr. Casady came to this city in 1908, at that time engaging in business.
He has lived here continously since with the exception of about two years
which were spent at Baker, Montana.  After his return to Lemmon, he became
proprietor of the Pool Hall which he has continued to operate until the time
of his death.  The deceased was a man of jovial disposition, always with a
greeting for all, and his friends can truly be numbered by his
acquaintances.

About ten days ageo, Mr. Casady was taken ill with the "flu".  He
remained indoors a few days, thedn thinking himself able and feeling the
need of his presence at his place of business, walked to the Pool Hall on
Monday, a week ago.  He suffered a relapse and rapidly contracted the dread
influenz-pneumonia which in spite of all that trained nurses and loving
hands could do, proved fatal.

Joseph Madison Casady was born in Hubbard City, Texas, April 14, 1870,
where his early youth was spent.  At the age of twenty-one he moved to
Oklahoma Territory where he lived until 1905, when he moved to Evarats,
South Dakota.

He was married to Laura Arnold on July 21, 1906, and to this union five
children were born, all of whom are living.  Inh 1908 he moved to Lemmon,
South Dakota where he has since resided.

Joe was a true pioneer of the West having helped to blaze the trail in
Oklahoma Territory and became aquainted withe open life of the plains and
spent his early life on the great cattle ranges of the souhtwest living
close to nature.

He was a great lover of his home and all of his leisure time was apent
there with his family.  Home was to him the dearest place on earth.

No man has ever lived in Lemmons who has been blessed with many true
friends as Joe.  He practiced the Golden Rule toward all men, and his
passing leaves a vacancy that can never be filed.

He leaves to mourn his departure a wife, five children and two
grandchildren, all of Lemmon, a father, mother, one sister and three
brothers of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and a brother, Otto, residing in Cody,
Wyoming.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. from the
Baptist Church with Rev. Hoover in charge.  Rev. E. E. Shult will assist.
Pall bearers wil be Otto Rodenbo, Paul Lippman, J.C. Stoner, O.Short, Dr.
E.J. McAllister and Joe Fields.  Burial will be made in the local cemetery.
