She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on September 28, 1915 to Myrtle Ring Mitchell and William Alexander Mitchell. She graduated from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma and obtained a master's degree from the University of Oklahoma. She was a teacher in Leedey, Hollis, Moore and Norman schools before principal at the end of her career. With her husband Eugene, she was a member in the First Baptist Church in Norman. After her retirement, she was active in Firendship International, where she taught English to women from other countries whose families has come to Norman. She also was a member of the Old Regime Book Club. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Kovel, her two grandchildren Dara and David Kovel and her sister Grace Hunter. Her funeral will take place in Norman, Oklahoma on Saturday, May 18, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the Havenbrook Funeral Home.
