All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Surnames: Clay, Norwood, Purcell, Gillis, Jackson, DuBose Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Norwood Clay, 79, were conducted Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Shamrock's First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Payne, pastor, and the Rev. Nina Hervey, pastor of Bible Methodist Church here officiating. Mrs. Clay died about 3:45 p.m. Friday, October 10, 1975 in Roger Mills Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne, Oklahoma following several week's illness. Interment was in Shamrock Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home. Pall bearers were: Wlater Pendleton, Bill Cantrell, Billy Cantrell, W.A. Sims, William F. Holmes and Jack Roach. Born in Stevenson, Alabama, Mrs. Clay came to Collingsworht County with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel W. Norwood. She had resided in Shamrock most of her lifetime, moving to Cheyenne in july of this year. Mrs. Clay and her late husband, Tom M. Clay, were owners and managers of Clay's Men's Store and Clay Courts, later called Holiday House, for many years before their retirement about 1971. Miss Irene Norwood and Tom Mac Clay were married August 13, 1918, in Shamrock. He preeceded her in death on October 31, 1971. Three infant daughters also preceded her in death. Mrs. Clay was a charter member of Shamrock First United Methodist Church where she had been a member of the United Methodist Women and the King's Daughters Sunday School Class. She also was a member of the Times Study Club. She was a graduate of the 1913 class of Shamrock High School. Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Baxter Purcell (Marita) of Cheyenne; two grandsons: Capt. Thomas C. Purcell, Garmish, Germany; Robert Purcell, Cheyenne; a granddaughter, Mrs. Cathy Gillis, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three great grandchildren; and two sisters: Mrs. Earl Jackson, Dallas, Texas and Frank DuBose, Amarillo, Texas.
