"Pappy" Calvert as he was known to us, was born January 29, 1860 in the state of Alabama. Leaving there at the age of four years he moved with his parents, James Elias and Mary Pearson Calvert to Johnson county, Texas then to Mineral Wells, Texas and later he came to the Panhandle where he met and married Miss Robbie Ann Stephens of Mobeetie, Texas in 1888. To this union were born six children, all of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Ora Waldrip, McAlester, Oklahoma; R.M. Calvert, Elk City, Oklahoma; R.F. Calvert, Hereford, Texas; Mrs. R.F. Sprowls, Frank Calvert and E.W. Calver, all of Cheyenne, Oklahoma. He was not only an early pioneer but a good neighbor and a loyal devoted husband and father. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Walker Ferguson of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Rev. Brodaced Elkins, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Cheyenne. The musical numbers rendered were under the direction of Mrs. J.H. Tunnard. Pall bearers were the grandson, Randall Calvert, Derward Calvert, Merril Calvert, Fremont Sprowls, Charlie Sprowls, Louis Sprowls, Memory Sprowls, Bob Waldrip. Assisting with the flowers were: Frances Sprowls, Nettie Sprowls, Kathlyn Calvert, Johree Calvert, Honwea Rhoton, Zola Sprowls, Loretha Vick, Grance Necase and Lois Waldrip. He leaves to mourn his departure, a wife, six children, eighteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, a brother, Doc Calvert of Ft. Worth, Texas, and a host of other relatives and friends. Attending out-of-town friends and relatives were: Mr. and Mr. Robert Waldrip and children, Morris, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Calvert and sons and Misss Iris and Genise Calvert, all of Oklahoma City; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Calvert, Hereford, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Fremont Sprows and children of Aztec, New Mexico; Mr. and Mrs. Memory Sprowls and children, Erick, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Sprowls and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Rhoten of Borger, Texas; Mrs. Dock Calvert, Ft. Worth, Texas; Miss Grace Necase and Zekee Simpson, Pampa, Texas; Walter Simpson, Mack Simpson, Zora Lobbins, Mr. and Mrs. Foster Stephens all of Clovis, New Mexifco; Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Calvert, Trudie Young, Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Quattlebaum, Mr. and Mrs. Absher, all of Elk City, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Simpson and son, Carl, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Simpson and baby from Canadian, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stephens, Mr. and Mrs. John Stephens of Elk City; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Farris, Arnett, Oklahoma; and Rev. Leonard Cronin, Pond Creek, Oklahoma. Burial arrangements were directed by the Tunnard Funeral Home. Interment was made in the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
