Compton, a pioneer teacher in western Oklahoma, and loved by all, was called to pass the final examination before the Great Judge Monday morning, May 6, 1912 at four o'clock. He taught the Blue Ridge school this year, which is located about eight miles north of Sweetwater. The school would have closed in two more days, when he was suddenly taken ill a week ago. The pupils were preparing to give an entertainment and had the program all arranged, but the death angel planned differently. Mr. Compton was about 60 years of age and had spent most of his life in the school room where his good influence will be felt for years to come. The teachers will miss him greatly as he was always present at the teachers' meeting and had a pleasant smile and a word of encouragement for every one. 9-May-1912 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Roger Mills Archives http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/rogermills/rogermills.html
