Cannon was born April 22, 1911 south of Carter, Oklahoma to Effie and John Henry Cannon. He passed away June 16, 2003 in the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital, Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 25 days. Johnny attended school at Sayre and graduated from Erick High School. He worked for a short time in Oklahoma City before moving to Roger Mills County. He was married to Nena Gertrude Lucas on November 10, 1934 in Roll, Oklahoma. They lived in the Crawford and Roll communities before moving to Cheyenne in 1958 to make their home. Nena passed away in 1989. He was married to elen McCamon Miller at Cheyenne, Oklahoma on March 13, 1993 and they continued to live in Cheyenne. Johnny farmed a number of years, owned a grocery store in Roll, owned the Cannon Laundry, the Conoco Service Station and Wholesale Distributor before he owned and operated Cannon Insurance Agency. After his retirement, he and Leland Burns owned the Sayre Bowling Alley for several years. Johnny was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Sayre Golf Club. He was a member of the Cheyenne First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Services will be held Friday June 20, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Cheyenne First Baptist Church, officiated by Milton Gage and Fred King. Burial will be at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Survivors include: wife, Helen of the home; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Tertry Watson of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; 1 son and daughter-in-law Bob and Anita Cannon of Crawford, Oklahoma; 1 step son and daughter-in- law, Ray and Lorene Miller of Hooker, Oklahoma; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bob Still of Kirwin, Kansas; 2 sisters, Jessie Flori of Austin, Texas, Jeffie Vodermarck of Lompoc, California; 1 brother, Herbert and Laveda Cannon of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; hoost of other relatives and friends.
