All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Cheyenne Cemetery--Cheyenne OK Surnames: Cunningham, Hokins, Price, Mayrofen, Bradley Originally posted at: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5YB.2ACE/6712 Lisle Cunningham Killed in Car Accident Granite Youth, Surviver of Anzio Beachhead And German Prison Camp Auto Acccident Victim WAS BURIED HERE SUNDAY American Legion Of Granite Direct Burial In Presence Of Large Crowd of Friends and Relvatives Lisle Cunningham, 25-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cunningham, of Granite was buried in the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon of this week following his death at 3:30 Sunday afternoon. Young Cunningham, who survived the terrible Anzion beachead invasion of Italy when he was captured by the Germans, survived the German prison camp, came to his death as a result of an auto mishap. He and other youth were returning to their homes in Granite from Sayre Saturday night when their car hit soft dirt two miles south of Sayre, overturned and fatally injured Cunningham. Other occupants of the care were not seriously injured. Cunningham was taken to Sayre hospital where he died six hours later. Lisle Cunningham was a medmber of the Third Ranger Battalion and was a sergeant. Funeral services were conducted from the Church of Christ of Cheyenne Tuesday afternoon of this week at whicfh time the church and yards were filled with relatives and friendds who gathered to pay tribute to Lisle, former resident of this city. Burial was in the local cemetery undeer the direction of the Granite Post of the American Legion, of which he was a member. Deceased is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Cunningham of Granite two brothers, Basil ands Frankie of Granite, four sisterss, Vina Dee of Granite; Mrs. Ophelia Hokins, Dumas, Texas; Mrs. J.M. Price, Canadian, Texas; and Mrs. Josephine Mayrofen, Granite, Oklahoma. Lisle Cunningham was a grandson of Mrs. Lena Bradley of Cheyenne.
