He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruth Wink Cary, of the home address. two sons, Teddy Sheldon Cary, also of Reydon, and Charles Andrew Cary of La Canada, California, one grandson, William Sheldon Cary, son of Ted and Cleta Cary, of Reydon, nephews and nieces and hosts of friends. Dr. Cary graaduated from Marquette University Medical School, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1911, and came to Sayre that year. His first medical acquaintance was with Drs. Speed and Windle, and he made his home for a short time in the residence of Dr. Windle. Hearing of the death of Dr. Perry, of Old Rankin, he borrowed $5.00 of Dr. Windle, and a team and buggy of his brother, Herbert Cary, of Grimes, and came to Rankin to start his life's practice of 43 years to a day of faithful sercice to suffering mankind, which began and ended in Rankin, now known as Reydon, Oklahoma. For over a year he made his home with the Grant McColgin family, on the Brown farm. They built a lean-to shed room on their very small frame house which housed five children, and this Dr. Cary used as office and bedroom, shared with Willis and Sterling. On May 13, 1916, Dr. Cary was united in marriage to Miss Ruth Trammell, daughter of Phillip (Teddy) and Betty Trammell, in their home on the ranch four miles southeast of Cheyenne, by the Rev. Wileman pastor of the Cheyenne Methodist church. Dr. Cary was a member of the American Medical Association, an honorary member of both the Oklahoma and the Beckham County Medical Associations. He was Roger Mills County health officer for many years, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Darlington, Wisconsin, and a Shriner of Oklahoma City. In early life he joined the Methodist church of Darlington, Wisconsin and later transferred to the Methodist church of Reydon. No day was too stormy, no night to wild, no snow too deep but what Dr. Cary would go far or near when a child's sick cry, or a mother's wail of anguish called him. His heart was wrung with pity for all who suffered. Always faithful to his profession but still more faithful to his tender- hearted out-reach to suffering people. Nor did he stop with just the duties of a physician, but often food and other help went to the needy following his visists. He continued, even during the last three years of a lingering illness, to receive patients. Twelve consulted him the day before his passing to the Great Beyond. In his diary were found these few lines in his hand-writing, written during his last illenss. "I am only a being of another day, I've lived my life and had my say. Sickness has hit me and made me despair of being a man of the Coming Day. Life is painful as I toss on my bed. And sharp pains hit my poor throbbing head. Life seems empty with nothing to do, I am just worn out, like a cast-off shoe. Life's glories are ending, so it seems today, Unless I get better, I cannot stay. Each man owes his life to God, and soon I will rest under earth's green sod." Funeral arrangements were by Moore Funeral Home of Sayre. Services were Sunday, January 23, 1955 at 2:30 p.m., in the Reydon community hall. Officiting was Rev. Charles L. Carpenter, pastor of the Reydon Methodist church, with Rev. Horaace Woodard, former pastor of the Baptist church, assisting. Interment was in White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with the Masonic Ritual by the Reydon Lodge.
