Cross had passed from life on Sunday evening, November 18, 1928 at about seven o'clock at the Tisdal hospital in Elk City where she had undergone an operation just five days prior. Although not well, Mrs. Cross had been one of the active women of the town until the time when she went to the hospital in the hopes that an operation might enable her to recover he health. After the operation she seemed to be doing nicely until Satuday night when she began to suffer and the pain grew more intense, finally sapping all of her vitality. Ruth Harriet Leary was born at the family home south of Cheyenne October 27, 1900. She was married to D.V. Cross of this city May 2, 1920. To this union one daughter, Nellie Ann, was born some four years ago. Besides the husband and baby girl she leaves her mother, Mrs. Nellie Leary of Cheyenne; three brother, Graham, Jack and Bob, all of Cheyenne; two sisters Mrs. Kate Hall of Cheyenne and Mrs. Nellie Haga of New Mexico; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her departure. Cheyenne has never produced a better loved woman than Ruth Cross. It seemed she possesed all off the qualities that make one lovable; a kind disposition always willing to lend a helpin hand; a keen intellect that gave her foresight; a devoted wife and mother and a favorite with her brothers and sisters; taking an active part in public affairs her wonderful personality caused her influence to be felt in whatever she participated. Her being called from such an active life has left her relatives and friends wondering "upon whose shoulders her mantle will fall". At the time of her seeming untimely death she was vice president of the Platonic Club of Cheyenne and superintendent of the Intermediate department of the Methodist Sunday School. She united with the Presbyterian church in 1920 to which faith she held at the time of her death. The large auditorium of the Methodist church of this city could not hold the crowd that came to pay tribute to one whom they had known as a friend. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Davis of Sayre, formerly pastor of the Methodist church in this city, preaching the sermon in which he paid great tribute to the deceased and pointed out that the memory of such a life is to be cherished. The body was laid to rest in the Cheyenne cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills county, Oklahoma beneath a floral covered mound. The many friends of the family extend sympathy as they mourn with relatives.
