Curtis, former long-time mayor of Hammon, who died Wednesday, October 25, 1972 at the Community hospital, in Elk City were conducted from the First Baptist Church in Hammon Friday, October 27, 1972 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Billy Parvin and Rev. J.R. Lawson officiating. Mr. Curtis was born September 1, 1899 near Jefferson City, Missouri. He came to western Oklahoma with his parents when he was one year old. He was married to the former Alta Gass near Hammon on February 5, 1920. He was a farmer and rancher for several years. He served Hammon as mayor several times and was presently on the City Council and was past Fire Chief of the Hammon Fire Department. He was presently an insurance agent in Hammon. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hammon and former member of the Hammon Lions Club. Survivors are his wife Alta of the home; one son John R. Curtis, Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, 1 sister Mrs. Addie Easterwood of Chickasha, Oklahoma; two brothers, Jim, of Port Angeles, Washington, Clarence of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Burial was in Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Elk City.
