Thomas Cordell, 88, died March 16, 1996, in the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne. Funeral services were held Monday, March 18, 1996 at the Cheyenne First Bapist Church with Terrell Romberg officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery, Durha, Roger Mills County, OK under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Cheyenne. The family requests memorials be made to the Eastern Child Welfare Association/Dillon International, Inc. 3530 East 31st Street, Suite 102, Tulsa, OK 74135-1519. Mrs. Cordell, the daughter of Fannie Mae and James William Thomas, was born on Oct 26, 1907 in Durham, Oklahoma Territory. She graduated in the first graduating class from Durham High School in 1927. She graduated from Southwestern Normal School in Weatherford and then graduated from Central State Teachers College in Edmond with a lifetime teachers certificate. She taught in Rankin, Okla., before moving to Colorado in 1931 in 1935, she moved back to Durham and married Fred Lee Cordell on June 20, 1935, in Strong City. They taught three years at Breezy Meadow, east of Roll, before moving to Strong City. They moved to Durham and later to Cheyenne in 1942 to make their home. While Mr. Cordell served his country during Worlld War II, Mrs. Cordell served as the county superintendant. Her whole life was centered around her family and church. She was an active member of the Cheyenne First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister. She is survived by her husband, Fred, of the home; two daughters, Paula Cordell Isch of Weatherford and Judith Mae and her husband, Anthony Corneel, of Allison, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Taryn Cordell of Woodward; one sister, Katura Powers of Midwest City; 10 grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Roger Mills Archives http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/rogermills/rogermills.html
