Carter H.M. Carter funeral services were held Wednesday, September 7, 1977, at 10:30 a.m. in the Sayre First Baptist Church with interment in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery, Sayre, Bekcham County, Oklahoma. Herman Mayhew Carter was born Feburary 1, 1895 in Tennessee and passed away at the Sayre Hospital September 5, 1977, after and extended illness at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 4 days. He moved with his parents to this area and farmed in the Griems and Sayre communities. He ran the store at Highwasy for 4 years. Then they moved to Sayre to make their home. He was married to Ethel Gleaves at Wheeler, Texas on March 7, 1927. Preceding him in death were his parents, 1 infant daughter, 1 son, Tom in 1965; and 2 brothers. Survivors are his wife, Ethel of the home; 1 daughter, Kyra Bain, Ault, Colorado; 8 sons, Laron, Kearney, Arizona; Louis A. of Clovis, New Mexico; Daniel M., Forest Grove, Oregon; Merrell of Winlock, Washington; Billy Kenneth of Wildorado, Texas; Herman, Stinnett, Texas; and Roy L. of Heredord, Texas; 37 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mrs. Ova Smith, Lawton, Oklahoma; Mrs. Oda Wimms, Altus, Oklahoma; Mra Ola Bickie, Strasburg, Virginia.
