Carter who passed away at his home in Elk City early Saturday morning, May 22, 1954. Reverend Carter lived in this community and ajoining communities over 40 years. He was a member of the Kiowa Baptist Church and was ordained to the ministry by this church. Robert L. Carter was born December 27, 1873 in Delta County, Texas and departed this life on May 22, 1954 at his home, 1006 West 7th, Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years and 5 months. Robert L. Cartger and Mary Cordelia Maples were married at Pecan Gap, Texas 19 January 1895. They moved to Roger Mills County in 1907 living in the Kiowa and Sandstone communities. In 1945 they moved to Elk City, Oklahome. Survivors are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Earl Fisher, Nocona, Texas, Mrs. Joyce ellison, San Francisco, California, Mrs. Charlie Ford and Mrs. Sid Blankenship, Hammon; three sons, Lester, Covington, Oklahoma, Earl, Martinez, California and Everett, Salinas, California; four sisters, Mrs. Will grady, Pecan Gap, texas, Mrs. J.R. Jackson, Wylie Texas, Mrs. Carrie Hall, Dallas, Texas and Mrs. D.M. Grady, Hugo, Oklahoma and a brother, J.L. Carter, Bonham, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist church in Elk City, and burial was in the Kiowa cemetery, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma Tuesday afternoon.
