At the age of 6 years, his family moved to Carney, Oklahoma. Then in 1908, they moved to western Oklahoma, northwest of Cheyenne. Here Clifford married Miss Gertrude Miller from Burbank, Oklahoma. To this union was born one daughter, Pauline, in 1916. They farmed and ranched on the Washita River, northwest of Cheyenne until July of 1959, when they moved to Cheyenne where they were living at the time of his passing. "Cliff" as he was known by his many friends, was very successful as a farmer and a rancher, but most of all, Cliff was known for his fiddling which pelased the ears of young and old at the many old-time gatherings. The finer touch of the fiddle seemed to be his greatest inspiration. Preceding Cliff in death was his mother and father, one sister, Hattie and four brothers, Harry, Odis, Roy and Edd. Left to mourn his death is his wife of the home, one brother, Allen of Beverly Hills, California, one daughter, Mrs. Woodrow Smith of portales, New Mexico, seven grandchildren, Gary Smith of Emmett, Idaho, Gailya Thomas of Wichita, Kansas, Monty Smith of Amarillo, Texas, and Jimmie, Paulette, Mike and Linda, all of Portales, New Mexico, nine great grandchildren, and a multitude of friends. Mr. Carl passed away in the Cheyenne hospital, March 20, 1965. Funeral services were conducted in the Cheyenne Methodist Church March 23, 1965. Burial was in the Cheyenne cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, Ok
