Dan Pulver and Rev. Rob Harris officiating. Services were under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City. Candace June "Candy" Carlson of Cheyenne was born February 13, 1950 at Council Bluffs, Iowa to H.A. :Skip" and June Rolison Carlson and passed away Monday, July 5, 1999 at the age of 49. She grew up in Elk City and grauduated from Elk City High School as the Valedictorian of her class and a National Merrit Scholar. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of University Scholars, Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, Wesley Foundation and Student Action, an organization which promoted service projects and participation in campus issues. She graduated Phil Beta Kappa from O.W. and a B.A. Degree in Math Education. She taught math for 5 years in Clinton and Midwest City, as well as spending 2 years as a Graudate Assitant at Oklahoma State University while working on a Master's Degree. After 5 years of teaching, she returnede to school and received a J.D. degree from the University of oklahoma College of Law. After graduating from Law School, she chose to return to western Oklahoma and accepted a position with the District Attoreny's Office, assigned to the Roger Mills County Office in Cheyenne were she grew to love Roger Mills County area and people. Although she continued to try cases in other counties of the six-county District, she turned down several opportunities to transfer to Beckham or Custer Counties and chose to remain in Cheyenne, because the opportunity to work closely with local law enforecement and wit the community. She also spent 2 1/2 years as the attorney in charge of the D.A.;s Child Support Enforcement Unit, serving all 6 counties of the District, and 5 years in private practice in Elk City, a practice which included all aspects of the law, with a particular emphasis in family law. Through her life, whether through her teaching or law practice or in her private life, her main interest was in reaching out ot people, particularly children. She spent many hours trying to help and encourage people with their personal problems, as well as their professional ones. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, where she taught children's Sunday School classes for many years. She was presently a member of the Cheyenne United Methodist Church, where-she also served several years as Annual Conference Delegate, and as a member of the Administrative Council, as well as several committees. She was also proud to have been a member of the PEO Sisterhood, along with her mother and sister. Survivors include 2 sisters: Sandy Watkins of Elk City and Tami Atkinson and her husband David of Elk City; her niece, Nikki Watkins, and 4 nephews Jason Waatkins, and Joshua, Jacob and Jeremy Atkinson, all of Elk City and her uncel Dr. Ed Rolison of Weatherford. Memorial gifts in Candy's name may be made to either St. Jude's Children's Hospital of Memphis, Tennessee or to the Children's Miracle Network at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City.
