She attended the Fairview School east of Putman, and later Putman High School. Elva married Hugh Carney on May 13, 1936 in Arapaho, Oklahoma, and lived east of putman in the Parraliel community, in the spring of 1944 they moved to Leedey, near Rhea, Oklahoma, where they resided until Hugh's death in 1974. Elva moved into Leedey in 1985. She is survived by her five children, Myrna Carney of Norman; Bud Carney of Leedey, Marilyn Harrel and her husband Jimmy of Leedey; Glenda Cravens and her husband Jay of Putman, and garry Carney of Sayre, Oklahoma. Her four grandchildren were the apple of her eyes and she always looked forward to seeing Randy Cravens and wife Karen of AArapaho; Monty Cravens and wife Shelia of putman; Keela Terry and her husband David of Elk City; and Senera Kauk and her husband Michael of Owasso, Oklahoma. Her eight great-grandchildren were very special to her. And, it can be easily said that Slayden, Stetson and Jaydrian Cravens; Matthew and Jeanie Cravens; Taylor and Rayn Terry; and Kristen Kauk all loved their "Carney", or their "Nanny II" as she was lovingly called. Elva is also survived by several nieces and nephews, a speical caretaker, Kristine Morian, many friends and wonderful staff member at the Leedey Nursing Center. She was a member of the Leedey Baptist Church and thoroughly enjoyed her Sunday School Class, serving on the church kitchen committee, and the tours to Branson and other points of interest. She was a true homemaker, possxessing a rare talent for sewing (stitching designer styled clothing without patterns), crocheting, embroidering and quilting. Her cooking, canning, and pickle-making not only fed the family, burt won ribbons at the local fairs as well. She was a member of the Extension Homemaker Club and the Leedey Riding Club. She loved to paly canasta, ptich, and dominoes, and have "coffee time" with friends. Besides being wonderful mother and homemaker, Elva served as a waitressw at the local cafes, and this became a career that provided a great amount of joy, for she loved being with people. Elva departhis this earthly life for her much awaited home in heaven at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at the age of eight-one years. In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made in Elva's honor to the Leedey Baptist Church. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK
