Alta, the daughter of Henry and Lillian Ensminger moved with her parents to Ellis County. On November 9, 1938 she married Louis Sam Carnes in Fargo, Oklahoma and they lived in California, Kansas and Oklahoma before moving to the Merritt Community in 1954 to make their home. She had been a member of the Baptist Church at Merritt since the early 1950's. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Fred and Oscar. She is survived by her husband Louis of the home; 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Lucille and Henry Porter of Durham, Oklahoma; Janie and Danny Music of Elk City, Oklahoma; 4 sons and daughters-in-law; Sam and Gwen of Carter, Oklahoma; Jerry of Hutchinson, Kansas; Albert and Karen of Norman, Oklahoma; Jack and Kay of Elk City, Oklaahoma; 2 sisters: Mary Carpenter of Springfield, Missouri; Nellie Clark of Iola, Kansas; 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside service was Tuesday, June 27, 1989 at 11:30 a.m. in the Lone Oak Cemetery with Boyd Whitehead officiating under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre.
