The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ *********************************************************************** Obit for Louis Sam Carnes Louis Sam Carnes was born February 8, 1915 in Stonewall, Oklahoma to Johnnie Vernon and John Dozier Carnes and passed away February 27, 1994 in the Clinton Regional Hospital at the age of 79 years and 19 days. During the mid 30's Louis served in CCC camp and married Alta Mae Ensminger on November 9, 1938 in Fargo, Oklahoma. They lived in California, Kansas and Oklahoma before moving to the Merritt community in 1954 to make their home. He was a security guard at Howards Furniture and a school bus driver at the Merritt Schools for 20 years while farming in the community. He was a member of the Prairie View Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lucille and Henry Porter, Durham, Oklahom and Janie and Danny Music, Elk City, Oklahoma; four sons and daughters-in-law, Samand Gwen Carnes, Merritt, Oklahoma, Jerry and Paula Carnes, Hutchinson, Kansas, Albert and Karen Carnes, Norman, Oklahoma, Jack and Kay Carnes, Merritt, Oklahoma, two sisters Dorothy Calvert, Norman, Oklahoma and Louise Rutherford, Yukon, Oklahoma, fifteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 1994 at the Lone Oak Cemetery officiated by Boyd Whitehead and assisted by Kendell Hamilton. A dinner will be held immediatley following the services at the Prairie View Baptist Church. Services are under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Sayre. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK
