Cornett was born May 24, 1919 on the farm about 7 miles west of Leedey, OK. He attended schooll at Texmo and Liberty Center. Glen passed away at the home of his son Boyd, March 23, 1995 in Del City, OK. Glen was inducted into the army on March 7, 1942. One of the first group from Roger Mills County. He received his training at Camp Bowie, Texas near Brownsville, Texas. After basic training he was attached to the 256th Signal Construction Co. On July 7, 1942 he sailed for England. About March 1943 he was transferred to the 979th motoer messenger Co. where he was involved in the delivery of classified mail through out England, Scotland and Ireland winter the invasion for France. His unit scheduled to land on French soil in the 3rd wve did not land until abotu 10 days after the initial landing, due to problems and congestion on the beaches. His unit was attached to General Pattons 3rd Army. While he was in the European theater he traveled in England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Belgium, Holland and Luxemboug delivering classified mail. On Decmber 7, 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge, he was delivering mail to the front, when the vehicle in which he was riding, was hit by a army 6X6 truck. Glen was thrown thru the windshield. Even though severly injured, he continued to guard the mail and refused to be evacuated until relived by an officer authorized to handle the classified mail he was carrying. Glen then spent 9 weeks in the 101st General Hospital at Paris France where skin grafts were required to the damge to his face. He received a Certificate of Merit, Purple Heart, 5 campaign medals and other theater medals. He was discharged October 13, 1945. When Glen returned home, he lived on the Luther Taylor Ranch north of Berlin, OK with his father and three younger brothers which he promised his dying mother he would do before leaving for Europe. Glen married Geraldine Walker Miller November 20, 1949. They had 3 children, Jerry Miller, Boyd and Glenda Cornett. Jerry was killed in Veitnam; September 9, 1968. He was not yet 20 years old. Glen worked for his brother, Paul near Canyon, TX for two years. He was a driller for a oil exploration company in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiiana for several years he was self employed as a contractor and specialized in security type fences. Glen was a member of the Church of Christ. He was always good and kind never saying an unkind word of anyone. He was always there for us. Glen was happy when he could be in Roger Mills County and see the crops and cattle. He enjoyed visiting his sister, Edith and going to help with the cattle or be with her son Jim. Glen passed away March 23, 1995 at his sons home in Del City, OK. Family and freinds were with him. Those left to mourn his passing: his son and daughter in law: Boyd and Dee Cornett. Grandchildren Clinton and Amanda Cornett of Del City, OK. Daughter and son in law, Glenda and Randy Fudae and grandchildren Dan and Aimee Daniel of Oklahoma City, OK. 4 brothers, James, Albany, Oregon, Billy, Higgens, TX, Bobby, Colorado Springs, CO, Jessie Littleton, CO; 4 sisters, Lois Fuller, Albany, Oregon, Edith Snell, Redyon, OK, Naomi Sullins, Lake Havasu City, AZ, Eunice Mangold, Amarillo, TX, Fanny Darvis, of Oklahoma City, OK. And a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, 1 brother, Paul, 1 sister, Ruth, and his son Jerry. Funeral services were conducted by Willard Cox of Midwest City, OK. The Honor Guard Chapter 85 VFW of South Oklahoma City performed the Military Service.
