Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery with Larry Cantwell, David Brooks, Al Bettina, Randy Fowler, Travis Foster, and Bob Harmon serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Lacey, David Goin, L.C. Cousins, Bill Wahlman, Emmitt Clayton, Dean Overton, Herman Wallace, Alan Carter, and Darrell Davis along with all her other many close friends and family members. Those desiring to make memorial contributions may send them to the Central Christian Church Children's Library in Portales. Ola Mae graduated from Durham High School in Durham, Oklahoma in 1948, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Southwestern University in 1951. She taught in Elk City, Oklahoma before moving to Portales to continue teaching in the elementary schools. It was in Portales that she met Wayne "Boog" Coplen, and they were married June 5, 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church by Rev. Homer Akers. Ola Mae retired the first time in 1986. She retired for two more years, and then again for another five years before finally retiring in 1993 after 39 years of active teaching. She was a member of the Central Christian Church, the church Bible study group and also of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She is survived by a nephew, Douglas Fiskin and wife, Donita and a niece Sue Howard and husband, Audrey, all of Amarillo; three great- nephews, two great-great nephews, two great-great nieces and one great-great-great nephew. Ola Mae will be missed by many ex- students, colleagues, friends and relatives. Services were under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary, 505-356-4455.
