Cross J.N. Cross, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully Tuesday January 6, 2009 after a brief illness. J.N. was born August 7, 1919 in Strong City, Oklahoma and graduated from Cheyenne High School. On April 25, 1940, J.N. married Minnie Mae Watson, the union produced two children. After high school J.N. worked on cattle ranches around Cheyenne and then joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. His work with the OHP brought he and Minnie to Guymon, OK in 1954 where he made his home until his death. During his time in Guymon, J.N. served the community first as a city councilman and then as mayor for 12 years while also being an active member of the Guymon chapter of the Kiwanis and helping found Kids Inc. After working for the OHP, J.N.went to work for USF&G Insurance Co. and ran the Guymon claim office for more than 40 years until his retirement. In later life, J.N. an avid horseman, worked mornings and evenings at the Pranch Ranch to! stay close to horses and cattle. J.N. was preceded in death by his father, James N. "Poly" Cross, his mother, Jessie K. "Muz" Cross, his sister, Gertie Rae and one son Billy Von Cross. He is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Minnie Mae; his son, Jim Cross, his daughter-in-law Marilyn Cross; his beloved granddaughters, Karrie Litherland and Tony Miles; his grandson, Nathan Cross; and his great- grandchildren Linsey Miles, Billy James Cross, Garrison Miles, Emily Cross and Ainsley Cross. Memorials may be made to Baggerley Funeral Home in Edmond or donations may be made in thee honor of Jim Cross to Kids, Inc. of Guymon. Services for James will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel.
