She attended the Trail School into the 12th grade but finished the final semester of her senior year in the Leedey High School, graduating with the Leedey Senior Class of 1926. In order to maker some money during her teen years, Mildred would chop cotgton for both her family and the neighbors. She also heped her aunts cook for threshing crews during harvest. She laughingly admitted to never having made more than a dollar a day for this tedioud work. Shed was baptized and joined the Methodist Church at Leedey in 1922 at the age of sixteen years. She remained an active member of this church until the end of her life, having served it as a Sunday School teacher at various times throughout the years as well as assisting with Vacation Bible School, the Methodist youth groups, and serving on all the Church's committees and always remaining available as a substitute Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the United Methodist Women most of her married life and led that group from all its offices including that of President for a number of years. Mildred was united in marriage to George Dennis Day on April 30, 1927. Mildred aand Denniee established their first home in the Trail Community. Four sons, Bobbie Gene, Edward Leon, Donald Lee and Charles Dennis were born to this happy union. The couple continued their residence at Trail until 1961 at which time they moved their residence to a farm a short distance northwest of Leedey. Both members of this loving couple resided there through the remainder of their lifetimes. Mildred held a deep interest in the 4-H program and was active at both the local and county levels during her school years. As their own sons began their schooling, both she and Dennie continued as sponsors in the program as long as their four sons attended school. She joined the Trail Home Demostration Club in 1926 and actively helped the Club at local and county fairs. She frequently entered exhibits of her own including flower arrangements, baked goods and craft articles. Mildred remained an active member of this organization for 60 years until club disbanded. Mildred's hobbies were caring for her family, gardening, growing and arranging flowers, candle making, baking and decorating cakes for the important events in her family and friends lives, piecing quilts and crocketing. As a founding member of the Dewey County Historical Society she wrote many of the articles included in the first edition of "Spanning the River" - Dewey Counties first compiledd record of founding family histories, she submitted articles on the town of Leedey and the Leedey First United Methodist Church and furnished a number of pictures that were used in the book. Mildred was also a founding member of the Leedey Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed all the meetings and projects that organization had undertaken. In 1996, Mildred was honored by the Dewey County Historical Society as Leedey's inductee into the "Dewey County Hall of Fame" an honor of which she was both justifiably proud and most deserving. This beloved member of our community passed into her Heavenly home on April 4th, 2006 while being comforted in the final illness at the Elk City Regional Hospital. She was met by loving family and friends of this life that preceded her in death including her beloved husband, Dennie; two brothers, Robert and Porter Twyman; two sisters, Margaret White and Evelyn Graybill; and one daughter-in-law, Dortha. She is survived by her four sons; Bob and wife, Betty, of Clinton; Eddie and his wife, Lola of Clinton; Don and his wife, Sarah, of Urbana, Illinois, and Charles, of the home of Leedey. She is also survived by two sisters Lula Mae Britton of Leedey and Lorene Twyman of Oklahoma City; five grandsons, one granddaughter, eight great grandsons, five great-granddaughters and eight great great grandchildren.
